Review Alienware Area 51 m17x

The Alienware Area-51 m17x 17-inch gaming laptop is now available. The notebook sports dual Nvidia GeForce video cards, up to 1TB of storage space, and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors.


The m17x features a 17″ display supporting 1080p (1920-by-1200 pixels) high definition resolution. The screen is managed by dual Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX, 8700M GT or 8600M GT dedicated graphics cards operating in SLI mode. The laptop comes with a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 1000GB of hard drive capacity using two 500GB HDD units. In addition, a hot-swappable third hard drive can be inserted into SmartBay, which is populated by default with a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive. This system is also configurable with a 64GB solid state drive and 1GB Intel Turbo Memory.


Alienware’s new gaming laptop has two speakers with subwoofer and a built-in 2-megapixel webcam. The notebook provides an optional integrated HD TV (ATSC) Tuner, HDMI and S-Video outputs, the Intel PRO Wireless 4965 b/g/draft-n internal mini-card, integrated Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet port, an ExpressCard slot, four USBs, 64-pin and 96-pin Firewire ports, and a 7-in-1 memory card reader.


The Alienware Area-51 m17x weighs 10.5 pounds with a 12-cell battery.


Regarding design, it debuts with Alienware’s new Ripley case and offers customized lighting themes across multiple zones, such as logo, keyboard (with numeric pad), touchpad, and multimedia controls.
